GREAT SINGLES: The Association v. Sidney Poitier

It's been a few days since I posted anything musical. Here's a couple more interesting singles...

-The Association-"Along Comes Mary." This is the original mono single mix, which is tough to find on CD anymore. Even the band's 1968 greatest hits album has a messy "true stereo" mix that uses the dreaded Haeco-CSG phasing system, which made music sound anemic in any format. That's the mix that's been used ever since. For a more bizarre and embarassing take, check out their appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

-Not sure that this was ever released as a single, but this version of "How I Got Over" is from the classic 1974 film "Uptown Saturday Night." Aretha Franklin recorded a similar version around this time.
